Photographers: capturing presence

Group Shot of our Featured Photographers

Photography is very literally a time capsule for the present. An image captured depicts a moment in time, documenting something that could never be perfectly recreated, something precious. A photo of a Nashville streetscape might have one cloud shaped just so featuring a runner for the split second they are passing a black mailbox in a slightly overgrown lawn on an unseasonably cool Summer morning right now as someone reads this passage. A photo crosses the bounds of presence into the past as soon as the shutter is closed, and becomes a message for our future selves.

Whether it is in a studio and the model’s expression is inexplicable or in front of a stage where a musician is passionately performing, photographers have the eye to know when an image conveys something more than that moment. Nashville features a breadth of creative talent, but especially those behind the lens.
