contributers:
  • Joe Nolan, author of Nowville, is an intermedia artist based in Nashville, TN. His diverse practice includes photography, multimedia paintings, public radio poetry broadcasts, live performances, musical releases, public projects, and his critical writing about art and film. His writing has appeared in Art in America, Whitehot Magazine of Contemporary Art, Flaunt, Nashville Scene, and more.

  • Jenn Ross leads event planning and implementation for Centennial Park Conservancy's programs, including Musicians Corner, Kidsville, and Nashville Earth Day. In addition to large-scale events, she manages partnerships with community organizations to present small-scale events like Yoga In The Park, International Day Of Yoga, and Opera In The Park. Beyond work, Jenn volunteers with the Nashville Wildlife Conservation Center and studies at Actors Bridge studio in Nashville.

  • Shayna Miller Hobbs is from the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican nation. She is a speaker, educator, healer, artist, musician, and entrepreneur. Shayna recently co-founded a Nashville-based arts collective, Indigenash, aiming to raise awareness of Nashville’s rich cultural fabric and honor the invaluable contributions of Indigenous peoples to our community.

  • Shabazz Larkin, Curator at The Museum of Presence, is a multidisciplinary artist, author, mindfulness practitioner, creative director, and activist interested in creating images of black culture and contemporary spirituality. Shabazz utilizes vibrant portraiture on canvas, typographic printing techniques and film. His practice of vandalizing photographs, overwhelming use of color, and bold typography, at times feel like visual concepts better suited for the editorial section of Rolling Stone. This technique only veils Larkin’s true intention to explore societal issues of race, justice and religion.

In a city comprised of countless scenes, histories, and realities, how can we design with authenticity—and why would we want to? Can Music City be shaped to accommodate emerging ideas while preserving its identity?

Join us for a panel with some of the city's brightest arts and culture minds as we discuss collaboration with cultural stakeholders and subject matter experts as a means to best put forth our collective voices as The Athens of the South.
